Jomsom trek boats some spectacular mountain views, and the route actually crosses to the other side of the main Himalayan range for views of the northern flanks. This fascinating trek begins in Nepal’s northernmost ramparts in the Thak Khola Canyon, as the Kali Gandaki is known in its upper reaches. After exploring the the arid, semi-desert, Tibet-like biotope of the trans-Himalaya with a trip to the renowned pilgrimage site of Muktinath, we follow the river southward as it cuts its way down between the two 8,000 meter massifs of the Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna Himal.
Colorful mule caravans can to this day be seen plying the historic salt trade route between the lowlands of the Great Indian Plains and the elevated country of Tibet, demarcated by the impenetrable Himalaya. The diversity of the people, flora & fauna is as phenomenal as the scenery -- dominated by the majestic summits of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges -- is ever-changing.
One can extend the program upon completion of this trip. Extension to Royal Chitwan National Park or rafting in the famous rivers of Nepal like Seti, Kali Gandaki or Trishuli is also possible. All treks are operated for the minimum of two people to maximum group size of 12 people. Fully organized camping as well as tea house treks are possible in this routes.
